There were 66 HPH women and 55 HPH men out parkrunning across 46 venues this week.

Twenty-three Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course and four of these were new to the HPH list. These were Mount Stuart on the Isle of Bute in Scotland by Amber Edwards and Emma Amor; East Richmond, New South Wales in Australia by Philip Fisher; Stadspark, Groningen in the Netherlands by Steven Binns; and Lackawanna Rail Trail in Elmira, USA by Tami Bond.

Mount Stuart parkrun course is on a combination of tarmac and trail paths that starts and finishes at Mount Stuart House. The House is the ancestral home of the Marquesses of Bute and is built in the Gothic Revival style. It is a Category A listed building. It claims to have the world’s first heated pool in any house and it was also the first home in Scotland to be lit by electricity. The house holds The Bute Collection, a private collection of artwork and artefacts. The Collection also houses archives, books, furniture, and silverwork reflecting the interests of the Bute family’s various generations, including 25,000 books on topics including theology, botany, agriculture and Scottish history and literature. In April 2016 it was announced that a Shakespeare First Folio had been discovered in the House’s Library.

Richmond is a historic town in north-west of Sydney. The parkrun course is out-and-back through Ham Common Bicentenary Park. The park is alongside the runway of the Richmond RAAF Base and is thus the best spot to view the RAAF planes in action. There is a skate park for keen scooters and skateboarders; a children’s playground, complete with its own airplane; picnic shelters, electric barbecues and toilets.

The Stadspark parkrun course in Groningen is three laps on trails that includes a small hill. Inspired by the City Beautiful movement the construction of the park started in 1913 and was completed in 1926. Within the park an arboretum and a petting zoo can be found. There was a horse racing venue, but this closed in 2021 to allow for more concerts to be organised in the park. Recent concerts have been by The Rolling Stones; Tina Turner; Sting; Guns N’ Roses; and Rammstein.

Lackawanna Rail Trail is in Elmira in New York State, a short distance north of the Pennsylvania state line. The course is a mostly flat, out and back along the paved Rail Trail that follows the bed of the former Erie-Lackawanna Railroad.

There were four first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. These were Frazer Carr in 17:35 at Sloughbottom; Amber Edwards in 24:43 at Mount Stuart; Steven Binns in 19:41 at Stadspark; and Tami Bond in 28:08 at Lackawanna Rail Trail. There were fifteen PBs. These were by Thomas Moulding with 17:14 at South Manchester; Jonathan Coade with 19:42 at Wakefield Thornes; Sarah Jewers with 29:52 at Brockwell; Fiona Campbell with 26:25 at York; Steve Milne with 22:48 at Harrogate; Nicki Derrick with 25:28 at Rothwell; Nigel Wallis with 21:45 at Nobles; Andrew Carrier with 19:37 at Roundhay; Eleanor Williams with 24:55 at Delamere; Andrew Bassett with 21:36 at Newbiggin-by-the-Sea; Terry Williams with 27:44 at Skipton; Grace Roberts with 28:10 at Bramley; Frances Andrews with 30:31 at Chevin Forest; Ellie Shipp with 24:28; and Andrew Nicholls with 23:06 at Foro Italico.

There weren’t any new parkrun club members this week, but Sam Dooley completed his 350th parkrun with his run at Potternewton (to go with his 374 volunteering credits) and Alys Griffiths reached 300 parkruns with her run at Woodhouse Moor.

Over in Japan, lifetime Hyde Park Harrier Vikki Hawkins did her first ever first timers briefing at her regular Futakotamagawa course in Tokyo. It was her 96th parkrun there.

Top female Age Grade% was 70.77% by Carol Rogers at Cross Flatts and top male Age Grade% was 75.05% by Thomas Moulding at South Manchester.
