There were 68 HPH women and 69 HPH men out parkrunning across 51 venues this week.
Fifty-one Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. Two of these were new to the HPH list. These were Bug Hunter Waters by Eleanor Williams and Yorkshire’s latest parkrun course at Withernsea Promenade by Sam Dooley.
Bug Hunter Waters parkrun course is a flat two laps around the perimeter of the homonymous waterpark on a mixture of tarmac and compacted gravel paths. It is located at Northstowe – a NHS Healthy New Town between Cambridge, Huntingdon and Ely. Bug Hunter Waters is an important balancing facility that Anglian Water own. It helps to protect the local area and properties from flooding if there is particularly heavy rain. While it may look like a regular pond, under the surface it’s actually quite a technical piece of kit that controls surface water run-off, in terms of how the water flows, how it’s stored and drains. Because of this, the water can’t be used recreationally. Everyone is encouraged to stay clear of the water and leave it for the wildlife to enjoy. The newly constructed lake was named following a competition. The winning name was chosen by Dayna McCarthy and her four year old son because they love catching bugs at the lake.
Withernsea is a seaside resort town in Holderness, fifteen miles east of Hull. Its white inland lighthouse, rising around 127 feet above Hull Road, now houses a museum to 1950s actress Kay Kendall, who was born in the town. The Prime Meridian crosses the coast north-west of Withernsea. Withernsea Promenade parkrun course is three laps of Withernsea’s “stunning” promenade starting adjacent to High Brighton Street with flat paths heading south past the RNLI centre.
There were three first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. These were Amy Ramsden-Young in 20:34 at Woodhouse Moor; Jonathan Coade in 18:45 on his first time at Bowling Park; and Naomi Miles in 24:00 on her first time at Hamsterley Forest.
Greg Judges joined the parkrun 50 club with his run at Armley. Philip Fisher joined the parkrun 250 club with his run at Roberts Park.
There were eight PBs. These were by Alan Beswick with 24:30; Andrew Smallwood with 25:31 and Jill McKnight with 28:34 at Woodhouse Moor; Joe Lawley with 22:32 at Carlisle; Chloe Brooks with 24:24 at Harrogate; Laura Hastings with 29:04 at Morecambe Prom; Romina Masood with 29:30 at Queen’s; and Manesha Chauhan with 30:57 at Edgbaston Reservoir.
Top female Age Grade% was 73.55% by Honor Baldry at Woodhouse Moor and top male Age Grade% was 77.24% by Chris Jones at University of Northampton.
