There were 61 HPH women and 64 HPH men out parkrunning across 43 venues this week.

Twenty-six Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course and amongst these four were new to the HPH list. These were Cranbrook Country Park near Exeter Airport by Manesha Chauhan; Sence Valley Forest Park in Ibstock, Leicestershire by George Sullivan; and two in Australia – Lismore in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales by Louise Gardham; and Coombs in Canberra by Matt Kasher.

Cranbrook Country Park is 35 hectares of beautiful varied habitats and public amenity spaces across three meadows. The meadows are home to a large range of biodiverse wildlife including kingfishers, herons, bats, ducks, swans, insects and wildflowers. The parkrun course is largely out-and-back on a mixture of terrain from grassy fields to purpose laid paths.

Sence Valley Forest Park is situated on the site of a former open cast mine where, between 1982 and 1996, eight million tonnes of coal were extracted by opencast mining. The 60-hectare site has since been transformed by tree planting and the creation of lakes and is now managed by Forestry England. Sence Valley was the location for the Forestry Commission Centenary Woodland creation project. One hundred and two acres of land was planted in 2019/20 with a carefully selected range of coniferous and broadleaved trees. Grassy rides and surfaced footpaths have been created, giving visitors an opportunity to explore the newly created forest. A centenary avenue of cherry trees links into the public footpath network alongside the River Sence. The parkrun course is one lap on a mixture of gravel paths and grass trails using the new Centenary Wood area.

Lismore is 734 km north of Sydney and 200 km south of Brisbane and had a population of 28,816 in the 2021 census. Lismore was officially gazetted as a city on 9 September 1946. In the early 1950s, civic pride was boosted by a visit from the newly crowned Queen Elizabeth II with her consort who visited the city in February 1954, staying at the city’s Gollan Hotel. Television came to the city in 1956. The parkrun course is three laps around Riverside Park on a mixture of grass and concrete paths.

Coombs parkrun is an out-and-back course that offers scenic views of the Molonglo River Corridor – where you may spot the threatened Superb Parrot which is known to visit the reserve’s larger Yellow Box trees – and the National Arboretum. The course includes some small hills and features a mix of paved and unpaved surfaces – care and consideration should be given to other users, including walkers, cyclists and equestrians.

There were three first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. These were Nick Shakhlevich in a PB time of 18:54 at Roundhay; Jonathan Coade in 19:41 at Temple Newsam; and Anna Stocks in 25:51 at Ellesmere Port. There were ten other PBs. These were by Steve Milne with 21:31, Lucy McKerrell with 21:34, and Ed Shakespeare with 23:06 at Woodhouse Moor; Nicki Derrick with 24:57 at Pontefract; Andrew Carrier with 19:58 and Vicky Houghton with 22:43 at Roundhay; Peter White with 31:17 at Hillsborough; Frazer Carr with 17:55 at Roberts Park; Sophie Studholme with 23:42 at Silloth Promenade; and Andrew Nicholls with 24:05 at Favorita in Palermo, Italy.

Caitlin Crockford joined the parkrun 25 club with her run at Roundhay and Honor Baldry joined the parkrun 100 club with her run at Woodhouse Moor.

Top female Age Grade% was 69.15% by Hilary Lund at Pontefract and top male Age Grade% was 73.00% by Thomas Moulding at Woodhouse Moor.
