There were 62 HPH women and 77 HPH men out parkrunning across 49 venues worldwide this week.
Forty-one Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. Two of these were new to the HPH list. These were Ae Forest in Dumfries by Jamie Dobson and Okura kaigan koen in Japan by Vikki Hawkins.
The Forest of Ae is a vast conifer plantation located between Nithsdale and Annandale in Dumfries and Galloway in south-west Scotland. The forest was first planted in the 1920s, primarily with Sitka spruce. It has the designation of a ‘Priority Forest’ for Red Squirrel conservation. The land on which the forest is situated acts as a drainage basin for the Water of Ae, which has a thriving population of otters. The parkun course is an out followed by two anti-clockwise laps then a back alongside the Water of Ae river to the finish. It is on a mixture of hard path and trail with occasional trip hazards.
Ōkura Beach Park is a serene coastal retreat nestled between Kobe and Akashi, offering a tranquil atmosphere and stunning views of the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge. The Akashi Kaikyo Bridge is a suspension bridge that links the city of Kobe on the Japanese island of Honshu and Iwaya, Awaji on Awaji Island. It is part of the Kobe-Awaji-Naruto Expressway, and crosses the busy and turbulent Akashi Strait. It was completed in 1998 and at the time, was the longest central span of any suspension bridge in the world at 1,991 metres having surpassed the 1,410 metres of the Humber Bridge. The park features sports fields, children’s play areas, and ample BBQ facilities. The parkrun course is two and a half laps around the park on the Ōkura Coast.
There were two first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. These were Tobias Adkins in 18:27 at Zegerplas in the Netherlands and Edward Hale in 18:18 at Cornerstone Lakes in West Chicago, Illinois. There were ten PBs. These were by Clare Slorach with 20:48 at Armley; Naomi Adkins with 35:36 at Amsterdamse Bos; Robyn Johnson with 34:14 at York; Claire Hougham with 32:31 at East Holmes Field; Christopher Barr with 25:18 at Roundhay; Harry Webster with 21:58 at Bramley; Joseph Wilson with 28:39 at Henley-on-Thames; Joe Lawley with 25:42 at Vogrie; Frazer Carr with 25:18 at Karpendonkse Plas; and Nick Shakhlevich with 17:46 at Selby.
Dan Waas reached his 600th parkrun with his run at Thonock Lane Farm.
The top female Age Grade% was 76.98% by Samantha Tecwyn and the top male Age Grade% was 79.02% by Dan Stevenson, both at Woodhouse Moor.
