There were 47 HPH women, 59 HPH men and 1 undeclared HPH out parkrunning across 37 venues this week.
Twenty-three Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course and amongst them two new courses were added to the HPH list. These were Muncaster Castle in Cumbria by Tobias Adkins and Hartstown in Ireland by Chris Worfolk.
Muncaster Castle is a privately owned castle about a mile east of the coastal town of Ravenglass in Cumbria. The parkrun course is three undulating laps on wide tarmac and gravel tracks around the castle. Access is granted by the Muncaster Estate for the purpose of the event. All participants must exit the estate at the end of parkrun. In the castle gardens there is an aviary containing owls and other raptor birds from Britain and overseas. There are daily flying displays of these birds. There is an indoor maze themed on the life of a field vole. Muncaster Castle was home to jester Tom Fool around 400 years ago and is believed to be the only castle in the world that appoints a modern day jester. Each year the castle recruits the jester in the culmination of a competition that celebrates the art of tomfoolery.
Located in Dublin 15, Hartstown Park is a hugely popular recreational facility, providing many amenities including an all-weather pitch, running, and walking trails, adult exercise equipment, a callisthenics facility, a children’s woodland agility trail, and a full size Multi Use Games Area. A tree management program is in place and wildflower meadows have been established to increase the biodiversity of the park. A sculpture feature at the main entrance proudly announces your arrival to the park. The parkrun course is two laps around the park almost entirely on tarmac paths.
There was one first finishing Hyde Park Harriers this week. This was Rob Riley in 19:46 at Catton. There were ten PBs. These were by Charlotte Eva with 26:53 and Dan Lee with 54:09 at Woodhouse Moor; Andrew Black with 19:49 at Roundhay; Russell Webster with 28:12 at Wendover Woods; Alison Oppal with 31:48 at Potternewton; Vicky Houghton with 23:55, Caroline Young with 23:56, Steve Milne with 24:31 and Caite Burke with 24:42 at Chevin Forest; and Jessica Wanless with 31:31 at Delftse Hout in the Netherlands.
Mike Gallagher joined the parkrun 100 club with his run at York.
Top female Age Grade% was 68.85% by Hilary Lund at Pontefract and top male Age Grade% was 71.78% by Chris Jones at Wroclaw in Poland.
