There were 70 HPH women and 74 HPH men out parkrunning across 69 venues worldwide this week.

Fifty-one Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. Three of these courses were new to the HPH list. These were Aberfields in Wales by Richard Cartwright; Quakers Walk in Wiltshire by Kay Jefferies and Trevor Raddings; and Old Town House Park in Massachusetts by Vicky Houghton.

Aberfields parkrun is in the vilage of Nant-y-moel (meaning “stream from the bare mountain”) in the Ogmore Valley north of Bridgend. The course is one large lap and one small lap on tarmac and gravel and is mainly flat. The large first lap is an out and back following the Ogmore Valley cycle route. The second smaller lap is a loop around the skatepark then picking back up on the first lap back to the start. The course passes an impressive sculpture of a rabbit known as “Keeper of the Fields”. Aberfields is on the site of a former coal mine (Wyndham/Western Colliery) which closed in 1983. It now hosts a number of community sports and leisure activities.

Quakers Walk is a straight, tranquil, historic, tree-lined bridleway that runs out of Devizes for about a mile to the village of Roundway. It’s been a public right of way for 200 years although the path itself likely dates back at least 700 years. The first Quaker Meetings in Devizes started in the 1650s. Old maps name the walk as Keeper’s Walk, connecting it with the house occupied by the Keeper of the New Deerpark. The association with Quakers arose because in the earliest period of Quaker Meetings many members lived in Bishops Cannings parish and approached Devizes by this route. The parkrun course is just over three laps on a hard trail path with a short element on tarmac. It runs anti-clockwise around a ‘P’ shape with the loop of the ‘P’ through the adjacent Quakers Walk Meadow.

The Old Town House Park is in the town of Yarmouth in Barnstable County, Massachusetts on Cape Cod. The parkrun course starts in the park before heading off out and back along the Cape Cod Rail Trail – a 25 mile long paved bicycle / walking trail that takes in six Cape Cod towns.

There were two first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. These were Thomas Moulding in 18:05 at Bramley and Vicky Houghton in 22:37 at Old Town House Park. There were nine PBs. These were by Nagendran Balaramal with 24:46 and Abi Thornley with 28:09 at Woodhouse Moor; Jessica Wanless with 32:39 at Roundhay; Andrew Black with 19:56 at Oakwell Hall; Alys Griffiths with 25:22 at Bramley; Catherine McGuire with 28:42 at Middleton Woods; Daniel Fawcett with 26:59 at Armley; William Dow with 19:56 at Roberts Park; and Rob Riley with 20:26 at Fitzmaurice Park.

Vicente Ponsoda joined the parkrun 100 club with his run at Temple Newsam. Phil Lindsay joined the parkrun 500 club with his run at Woodhouse Moor.

Top female Age Grade% was 72.76% by Clare Slorach at Colney Lane and top male Age Grade% was 77.39% by Rupert Jordan at Rutland Water.
