There were 58 HPH women and 64 HPH men out parkrunning across 52 venues this week.
Thirty-nine Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course and amongst them one new course was added to the HPH list. This was Alton Water near Ipswich by Frazer Carr.
Alton Water is the largest manmade reservoir in Suffolk with a perimeter of over 13 km. Construction began in 1974 and it took 13 years to complete. The land beneath it was mainly farmland, but was also home to a mill and Alton Hall. The mill was dismantled and reconstructed at the Museum of East Anglian Life in Stowmarket. Starting in 2009 the reservoir was home to The Great East Swim – one of four mass participation open water swimming events held in the UK each summer. However in 2022 it was announced that the event could no longer take place at Alton Water due to ongoing challenges with Blue-Green Algae. The parkrun course description says “Two lap trail route which starts next to the cow enclosure and finishes in a wide open space. The route takes you along scenic footpaths and parts of the stunning reservoir. Don’t forget to say “hi” to the Highland cows, geese and ducks around the course.”
There were two first finishing Hyde Park Harriers this week. These were Heather Goodacre in 21:34 at Coventry and in 22:05 at Roundhay; Thomas Moulding in a PB time of 17:02 and Michael Vargas in 17:40 at Rothwell. There were seven PBs. These were by Alice Young with 25:52 and Frances Andrews with 29:00 at York; Fiona Campbell with 30:01 at York; Paul Milligan with 19:58 at Rothwell; Sam Dooley with 25:17 at Millfield; Andrew Bassett with 22:59 at Town Moor; and Stephen Prust with 34:19 at Armley.
At Woodhouse Moor there were two special events. Firstly Clare Maxwell who was the 29th finishing Hyde Park Harrier on the day was the Hyde Park Harrier who notched up the 25,000th run at Woodhouse Moor by a Hyde Park Harrier. Secondly the wonderful Jaz Bangerh marked the ending of her 11 years working for parkrun HQ by providing everyone with some lovely fresh fruit. She’s now said that next “this little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine”.
Caite Burke joined the parkrun 25 club with her run at Crystal Palace and Alasdair Fellows joined the parkrun 50 club with his run at Graves.
Top female Age Grade% was 72.25% by Jane Prust at Armley and top male Age Grade% was 76.13% by Michael Vargas at Rothwell.
