There were 59 HPH Women, 48 HPH Men and one undeclared HPH out parkrunning across 42 different venues this week. Thirty Hyde Park Harriers tried out a new parkrun course and amongst these three new courses were added to the HPH list. These were Gnoll by Danni Bryant; Aberbeeg by Sam Dooley; and Mensola in Florence, Italy by Andrew Nicholls. Gnoll parkrun is in Gnoll Country Park on the outskirts of Neath. The park features lakeside and woodland walks, restored formal cascades, a grotto, a coarse fishery, four ponds, a play area, an adventure playground and a visitor centre exploring the history and evolution of the estate. The finish line of the course is The Hollow Tree – an oak tree that despite being hollow continues to produce leaves and acorns each year. It won the Welsh section of the British Tree of the Year competition in 2017. Aberbeeg parkrun is also in south Wales in a village just south of Abertillery. It is currently top of the alphabetical list of UK parkruns. Mensola parkrun is on the eastern outskirts of Florence. It is in a new park with a large open area of pedestrian and bicycle paths, having been redeveloped with new trees, mostly oaks, pines and holm oaks (1400 have been planted), and flowers. Large paths lined with cypresses from the gardens of the villas that used to occupy the site remain. It has a dual function: park and expansion tank of the Mensola stream. In case of flood, the mass of water will be diverted here to form a large basin.
There were three first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. These were Naomi Miles in a PB time of 21:43 at Roundhay; Amy Ramsden-Young in 21:23 at Castle Park; and Michael Vargas in 18:32 at Bowling Park. There were eight other PBs. These were Eleanor Parkhill with 33:12 at Pollok; Aron Fulton with 26:22 at Bradford; Hannah Sutton with 30:30 at Roundhay; and Alys Griffiths with 25:02, Jane Prust with 26:48, Jo Rhodes with 27:23, Clare Maxwell with 29:05 and Stephen Prust with 34:33 at Bowling Park.
Debbie Brown joined the parkrun 250 club with her run at Chevin Forest.
Top female Age Grade% was 74.50% by Jane Prust at Bowling Park and top male Age Grade% was 75.04% by Gordon Crawford at Woodhouse Moor.
