On a parkrunday when Storm Babet decimated the parkrun calendar with many parkruns cancelled in Scotland and the north of England, not surprisingly the HPH numbers were slightly down with 39 HPH women and 51 HPH men out parkrunning across 35 venues this week.
Twenty-one Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course and amongst them two new courses were added to the HPH list. These were Reimer in Germany by Jo Rhodes and Momoi harappa koen in Japan by Vikki Hawkins. This was Vikki’s 10th course in Japan and took her total of Japanese parkruns to 87 – one more than her total in the UK.
Reimer Park in Munich is a large landscaped park that was built in 2002 in a new municipality on the site of the abandoned Munich-Riem airport. An artificial lake 800m long, 150m wide and up to 18m deep has been created in the centre of the park. On the east bank there is a beach and on the west bank there is a sedimentation zone for aquatic plants. The residential area to the south has the first multi-family zero energy house in Munich and projects for car-free living. The parkrun course goes around the lake and the former airport runway.
Momoi harappa koen parkrun is a five lap course in the Suginami City area of Tokyo. The park is a city block sized urban open space with a running track around a large grassy field. It is popular for ball games & flying kites.
There was one first finishing Hyde Park Harriers this week. It was Michael Vargas in 17:51 at Cross Flatts. There were 7 PBs. These were by Tariq Roberts with 24:13 at Black Park; Michael Gartside with 26:43 at Lister Park; Claire Booth with 26:26 at Sewerby; Sam Dooley with 24:26 at Cross Flatts; Heather Fulton with 32:22 at Bowling Park; Alex Greenwood with 21:46 at Rothay Park; and Debbie Brown with 34:10 at Chevin Forest.
Tariq Roberts and Josh Mitchell joined the parkrun 25 club with their runs at Black Park and Albert, Australia respectively. Alexander Perkin joined the parkrun 100 club with his run at Woodhouse Moor.
Top female Age Grade% was 68.16% by Jane Prust at Horton Park and top male Age Grade% was 75.91% by Michael Vargas at Cross Flatts.
