There were 68 HPH women and 65 HPH men out parkrunning across 51 venues worldwide this week.
Twenty-six Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. One of these courses was new to the HPH list. This was Welland Canals Trail in Canada by Tami Bond. The Welland Canals Trail parkrun course is out and back on the trail alongside the Welland Canal. The Welland Canal is a ship canal in Ontario, Canada, and part of the St. Lawrence Seaway and Great Lakes Waterway. The canal is 43 km long and traverses the Niagara Peninsula between Port Weller on Lake Ontario, and Port Colborne on Lake Erie. It was erected because the Niagara River — the only natural waterway connecting the lakes — was unnavigable due to Niagara Falls. The Welland Canal passes about 3,000 ships which transport about 40 million tonnes of cargo a year. It was a major factor in the growth of the city of Toronto, Ontario. The southern, Lake Erie terminus of the canal is 99.5 metres higher than the northern terminus on Lake Ontario. The canal permits two large ships to pass going in opposite directions, and features only eight locks.
There were two first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. These were Nick Shakhlevich in 19:17 at Conyngham Hall and Tami Bond in 29:29 at Welland Canals Trail There were six PBs. These were by Emma Mackenzie with 21:45 at York; Curtis Broadhead with 18:42 at Southport; Hollie Imisson with 32:15 at Rothwell; Steve Brown with 24:31 at Long Eaton; Richard Knighton with 19:24 at Temple Newsam; and Eleanor Williams with 28:22 at Fletcher Moss.
There were no new parkrun club members but Jason Newell reached 350 parkruns with his run at Middleton Woods; Claire Hougham reached 400 parkruns with her run at Roundhay; and Kay Jefferies reached 450 parkruns with her run at Woodhouse Moor.
Top female Age Grade% was 71.27% by Clare Slorach at Wetherby and top male Age Grade% was 76.12% by Ian Martinson at Walsall Arboretum.
