There were 51 HPH Women and 41 HPH Men out parkrunning across 38 different venues this week. Four new venues were added to the HPH list. These were Carlisle Park by Liz & Chris Jones; Alderley Park by Sam Dooley; Alstervorland in Hamburg, Germany by Peter Noren; and Riverside Park in Rexburg, Idaho by Tami Bond. Don’t go looking for Carlisle Park in Carlisle, because it’s 65 miles over the other side of the country in Morpeth. The park contains something of a rarity for the UK – a statue of a named woman – local suffragette Emily Wilding Davison. Alderley Park is south of Manchester between Knutsford and Macclesfield. In the 1950s office and laboratory facilities were built on the site that became the headquarters of ICI Pharmaceuticals. It soon became a global lead centre for cancer research and a number of anti-cancer treatments were developed at the site. Alstervorland in the centre of Hamburg contains a “Sky Swing”, however a bit of Googling reveals it is nowhere near as exciting as it sounds. Rexburg’s claim to fame is that it has been referred to as the “reddest” place in America as since 1980, Republican presidential candidates have polled more than 90 percent of the county’s vote on three occasions. It is also the home of the Idaho International Dance Festival where teams from around the world have shared ethnic dances and cultural experiences.
There was one first finishing Hyde Park Harrier. This was Flick Burton in 19:35 at Woodhouse Moor. There were nine PBs. These were by Frazer Carr with 17:17, Gregor Lawson with 19:53 and Craig Moreland with 22:33 at Woodhouse Moor; Rebecca Gray with 22:09 at Brighouse; and Alys Griffiths with 25:00, Vicky Houghton with 25:44, Richard Edwards with 28:33, Clare Maxwell with 31:11 and Claire Hougham with 35:01 at Chevin Forest. Frazer Carr joined the parkrun 50 club with his PB run at Woodhouse Moor.
Top female Age Grade% was 75.57% by Flick Burton at Woodhouse Moor and top male Age Grade% was 79.90% by Rupert Jordan at Leazes.
