There were 61 HPH women and 75 HPH men out parkrunning across 58 venues worldwide this week.
Thirty Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. Four of these were new to the HPH list. These were Grizedale Forest by Ben Hartley; Fulbourn Hospital by David Grealy; the inaugural Lost Shore Surf Resort by Sarah Jewers and Joe Lawley; and West Stow Country by Frazer Carr.
Grizedale forest in the heart of the Lake District World Heritage Site, offers breath-taking views, stunning unique sculptures and endless forest trails. It is home to the Grizedale Observatory & Planetarium. The observatory enjoys dark skies unblemished by light pollution. With the help of experienced and friendly astronomers, incredible stars, beautiful nebulae and distant galaxies are all accessible through their telescopes. The parkrun course is a double out and back on a hardcore forest road.
Fulbourn Hospital is a mental health facility located about five miles south-east of Cambridge city centre. The hospital opened on 6 November 1858 as the County Pauper Lunatic Asylum for Cambridgeshire, the Isle of Ely and the Borough of Cambridge. During the 1960s, Fulbourn Hospital became internationally prominent for its pioneering therapeutic community, under Dr David Clark. The parkrun course is located in the grounds of Fulbourn Hospital. It is four undulating laps mostly run on grass with a short stretch of concrete pathway at the start and end of each lap.
Lost Shore is an inland surfing resort and local tourist attraction located in Ratho, Scotland, west of Edinburgh city centre and south of Edinburgh airport. The resort incorporates a stand-alone artificial wave pool and amenities. It is Scotland’s first commercial artificial surfing lake and is situated in a former quarry. Amenities comprise accommodation in sleeping cabins and camping pods of different sizes, a waterfront bar, café, restaurant, surf school, surf shop, a training academy, sauna, and wellness treatments. The parkrun course is three anticlockwise laps on a mix of tarmac and shale paths around the perimeter of the site.
West Stow Country Park has 125 acres of unspoiled countryside, trails, heath and woodland walks. For wildlife enthusiasts there are two bird hides and a bird feeding area as well as a lake and the River Lark with all the life that this attracts. West Stow is also the site of an early Anglo-Saxon village, occupied from AD 420-650, over 400 years before the Norman Conquest. The site within the Country Park now has a stunning recreation of an Anglo-Saxon village with eight buildings. You can dress up as an Anglo-Saxon or say hello to the rare breed pigs and chickens. The parkrun course is a mixed-terrain cross-country route on hard paths, woodland trails and grass, with uneven ground, tree roots and some camber; hybrid or trail shoes are advised.
There were four first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. These were Michael Vargas in 18:08 at Conyngham Hall; Thomas Moulding in 18:18 and Emily Martinson in 23:55 at Jubilee; and Frazer Carr in 18:57 at West Stow Country. There were eight PBs. These were by Lucy McKerrell with 20:21 at Woodhouse Moor; Poppy Forwood with 46:48 at Roundhay; Clare Slorach with 20:26 at Rothwell; Matthew Gray with 30:22 at Bowling Park; Clare Evans with 25:21 at East Holmes Field; Jamie Ryan with 24:41 at Frickley Country; and Laura Chapman with 31:26 and Nicola Harold with 37:49 at Centre Vale.
Douglas Blackwood reached his 50th parkrun with his run at Y Promenâd. Paul Farmery reached his 200th parkrun with his run at Judarskogen. Curtis Broadhead reached his 250th parkrun with his run at Woodhouse Moor.
The top female Age Grade% was 74.39% by Clare Slorach at Rothwell and the top male Age Grade% was 77.59% by Gordon Crawford at Woodhouse Moor.
