parkrunday 25th April 2026

This week there were 49 HPH women and 55 HPH men out parkrunning across 42 venues worldwide.

Twenty-one Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. Two of these were new to the HPH list. These were Heritage Coastal Path in Easington by Vicky Houghton, King George V Playing Field in Cheltenham by Chris Jones and Kilkenny Lane Country in Oxfordshire by Rob Riley.

The Heritage Coastal Path (now part of the King Charles III England Coast Path) goes past Easington Colliery village. The path provides wonderful views of the cliffs, beaches and coastal wildlife. Look out to sea to spot dolphins and seals. Easington Colliery doubled as the fictitious Everington in the 2000 film Billy Elliot. Easington itself is notable for being the town with the highest percentage of white residents in England (99.2% white in 2001). According to the results of the 2001 census, it also has the UK’s lowest population of Jedi knights. The parkrun course starts adjacent to a large car park. It passes under a railway bridge to the coastal path and then follows a figure of eight route with open cliff top views.

The King George V Playing Field in Cheltenham is located beside the residential areas of St. Marks and Rowanfield. As a park it is used by locals to walk their dogs; for children to play and use the playground; for football and rugby matches; and for local events. The parkrun course is three rather convoluted laps around the playing fields. The route is mainly trail with steep banking. Trail shoes are recommended if it’s wet. Insect repellent is recommended if it’s damp and humid.

Kilkenny Lane Country Park is an ideal location for playing, walking, jogging, horse-riding or simply relaxing with a picnic. There are 2.5km of footpaths and bridleways as well as an adventure play area. The play area has sensory elements, landscaped features such as mounds and tunnels, and some unusual features (like willow igloos and a totem pole) and aims to exercise the mind as well as the body. Children will discover old favourites – a zip-wire, swings and slides – as well as new ones as they bounce on trampolines or swing in hammocks, dig in the sandpit or venture into a willow maze. The park is close to RAF Brize Norton – the largest station of the Royal Air Force in the United Kingdom. The parkrun course is two and a bit clockwise loops on a mix of grass and gravel paths. The route is mostly flat with gentle inclines.

There were no first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. However, there were two 2nd finishers. These were Clare Slorach in a PB time of 21:11 at Armley and Rebecca Gray in 21:58 at Malmö Ribersborg. There were seven other PBs. These were by Alexander Perkin with 23:08 at Potternewton; Emma Brown with 28:28 at East Holmes Field; William Watkins with 24:50 at Bramley; Elizabeth Wardale with 31:56 at Chevin Forest;Edward Hale with 18:26 and Aisling Davis with 21:27 at York; and Cara Gates with 28:02 at Bedford.

There were no new members of the official parkrun clubs.

Top female Age Grade% was 73.35% by Carol Rogers at Heaton and top male Age Grade% was 72.69% by Chris Jones at King George V Playing Field.
