There were 52 HPH Women and 41 HPH Men out parkrunning across 39 different venues this week. Four new venues were added to the HPH list. These included a new international venue in Eindhoven in the Netherlands by Frazer Carr. The course is around Karpendonkse Plas, an artificial lake that was created in 1953 by the removal of sand which was used to build the high railway through the city allowing roads to go under the railway line unimpeded. The lake contains a small island and is home to many waterfowl. North Walsham in Norfolk was added by Poppy Forwood. It looks rather uninteresting being laps of playing fields, but it’s actually steeped in history and full of fun. There is an impressive tree sculpture commemorating both the Battle of North Walsham that ended the Peasants’ Revolt in 1381; and the founding of the Eastern Counties Agricultural Labourers’ and Smallholders’ Union in 1906. There’s also a rather nifty skate park. Lews Castle in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis was added by Emma Amor. This Victorian era castle was built as a country house by Sir James Matheson using the money he had made from the Chinese Opium Trade. It is now owned by the local council and operated as a cultural centre. Finally Shepton Mallet was added by Tom Elcock. This one takes place in Collett Park. This park has a prestigious Green Flag Award. It was gifted to the town by John Collett in 1906. As a boy Collett had been told off for playing in the fields that were privately owned at the time. Years later the land was autioned off and Collett bought the lots and created the park.
There were six first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. These were Honor Baldry in 22:07 at Temple Newsam; Philip Fisher in 20:52 at Pendle; George Anderson in 20:09 at Middleton Woods; Tobias Adkins in 19:02 at Nant y Pandy; Frazer Carr in 18:07 at Karpendonkse Plas; and Amy Ramsden-Young in 20:42 at Myrtle.
There were also nine PBs. These were by Peter Noren with 18:30; Jane Prust with 26:42; Karly Stringer with 27:31; and Eleanor Bredin with 32:24 at Woodhouse Moor; Ciara Crossan with 29:43 at Pontefract; Sam Dooley with 22:59 at Grangemoor; Alys Griffiths with 23:52 at Nant y Pandy; Rebecca Thorley with 32:26 at Potternewton; and Robyn Johnson with 29:01 at Rothay Park.
Jennifer Benett joined the parkrun 50 club with her run at Town Moor.
Top female Age Grade% was 73.72% by Jane Prust and top male Age Grade% was 75.47% by Gordon Crawford, both at Woodhouse Moor.
