parkrunday 27th June 2026

There were 52 HPH women and 67 HPH men out parkrunning across 47 venues worldwide this week.

Twenty-eight Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. Two of these were new to the HPH list. These were Mace Ranch in USA by Andy Best and Jayne Glennon and Friedrichsau in Germany by Alice Houldcroft.

Mace Ranch Park is in the city of Davis in the Sacramento Valley in California. Abutting Davis is the University of California, Davis. In 2020 the population of Davis was 66,850 not including the students enrolled at the university, of which there were over 40,000. Davis has strong environmental credentials. It has a building code which has been successful in significantly decreasing energy use. It is part of the Cool Roof Initiative that requires all new roofing projects to install light-coloured roofs with the aim of reflecting more sunlight back into space via the albedo effect and reducing the amount of heat absorbed in hopes of limiting climate change. With its flat terrain, bicycling has been one of the most popular modes of transportation in Davis for decades. Davis had become a pioneer in the implementation of cycling facilities. As the city expands, new facilities are usually mandated. As a result, Davis residents today enjoy an extensive network of bike lanes, bike paths, and grade-separated bicycle crossings. Not surprisingly it is known as the biking capital of America. The parkrun course is out and back starting at Mace Ranch Park and then onto the Wildhorse Greenbelt Trail. It is run on a mixture of permanent paths and gravel paths.

Friedrichsau Park is in the city of Ulm in Germany. Ulm is the birthplace of Albert Einstein. The actual house where he was born no longer exists as it was destroyed during RAF bombing raids in December 1944 that ended with over 80% of the medieval city centre in ruins. Some parts of the city were rebuilt in the plain and simple style of the 1950s and 1960s, but most parts of the historic old town have been restored. Friedrichsau Park stretches 2km along the banks of the River Danube. It has beach volleyball, basketball and football courts; outdoor chess; mini golf; and many playgrounds amongst its collection of old trees and small lakes. It has a zoo where you can see a wide variety of animals – from kangaroos to blue frogs. A new addition is the walk-through, glass tunnel, where you can explore the variety of fish living in the Danube. In July it hosts the Ulm Volksfest that is one of the oldest folk festivals in all of Germany. Its roots date back to 1429, when Emperor Sigismund granted the people of Ulm permission to hold an annual fair. The parkrun course is two laps within Friedrichsau Park.

There was one first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. This was Lucas Johnstone in a PB time of 18:17 at Potternewton. There were five other PBs. These were by Nigel Wallis with 19:41 at Woodhouse Moor; Julie Robson with 31:50 at Penrith; Emma Brown with 26:40 at East Holmes Field; Edward Hale with 19:41 at Roberts Park and Megan Foster with 24:04 at Chevin Forest.

There were no new members of the official parkrun milestone clubs.

Top female Age Grade% was 69.72% by Jane Prust at Woodhouse Moor and top male Age Grade% was 74.13% by Chris Jones at Central Park, Burnaby in Canada.

Here are the details of this week’s parkrunning Hyde Park Harriers.
