There were 65 HPH women and 67 HPH men out parkrunning across 47 venues worldwide this week.
Thirty Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. Three of these courses were new to the HPH list. These were Birchall Playing Fields by Larissa Cairns; Mullingar in Ireland by Chris Worfolk; and Heiwa Koen Kurashinomori in Japan by Vikki Hawkins.
Birchall Playing Fields in Leek is the home of Staffordshire Moorlands AC. The parkrun course starts on the club’s 400 metre all weather floodlit track, leaves for three laps on tarmac and grass paths around the perimeter of the playing fields before finishing back on the track. The Moorlands’ clubs colours are of old gold with green trim. Gold because you should ‘run to win’ and the green band and trim to represent the moorland countryside. They have a wallaby emblem to celebrate those reputedly roaming the moors up above Leek.
The Mullingar parkrun course is out and back along the Old Rail Trail Greenway, starting and finishing at Old Trail Car Park, Newbrook Bridge, Mullingar. The Old Rail Trail is a 40km rural route between Mullingar and the town of Athlone on a converted stretch of the Midlands Great Western Railway.
Heiwa Koen Kurashinomori is two laps through the Japan Peace Park, Kurashi-no-mori in Nagoya. It starts and finishes at Higashiyama Forest – Satoyama House, which is described as a peaceful retreat nestled in the heart of nature. It offers a unique experience for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. With a focus on promoting harmony with nature it strives to create an immersive experience that allows visitors to fully immerse themselves in the beauty of the natural world, whether they are looking to reconnect with nature, explore the nearby trails, or simply enjoy a moment of peace and quiet.
There was one first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. This was Rupert Jordan in 17:53 at Whitley Bay. There were eight PBs. These were by Paul Robinson with 19:35 and Daniel Allison with 22:43 at Woodhouse Moor; Clare Evans with 20:34 at Southport; Daisy Wales with 25:55 at Mile End; John Pratt with 22:48 at Woolacombe Dunes; and John Blatherwick with 24:37, Jonathan Pryor with 26:41 and Alexandra Natalie Smith with 27:21 at Chevin Forest.
Naomi Gains joined the parkrun 25 club with her run at Woodhouse Moor. Samantha Tecwyn and George Anderson joined the parkrun 50 club with their runs at Woodhouse Moor. Ian Martinson joined the parkrun 100 club with his run at Heslington.
Top female Age Grade% was 72.69% by Clare Evans at Southport and top male Age Grade% was 77.57% by Thomas Moulding at Heslington.
