parkrunday 29th January 2022 – Hyde Park Harriers

There were 45 HPH Women and 33 HPH Men out parkrunning across 33 different venues this week. Given the stormy weather it is appropriate that one of the new parkrun courses that was added to the HPH List was at Watermead Country Park to the north of Leicester by Tom Elcock. The course goes around a couple of lakes, one of which is named King Lear’s Lake and has a statue of a scene from Shakespeare’s play on it. “Blow winds and crack your cheeks! Rage, blow, you cataracts and hurricanoes. Spout till you have drenched our steeples, drowned the cocks!” as Lear himself says in Act 3 Scene 2. England’s most south-westerly parkrun course – at Land’s End – was also added – by Eleanor Colman.

There were two first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. These were Robin Culshaw in 26:13 at Bramley and Vicky Houghton in 25:27 and adding a Z to her parkrun alphabet at Zamek w Malborku, in Poland. There were six PBs. These were by Jane Prust with 26:49 at Woodhouse Moor; Eleanor Parkhill with 35:52 at Pollock; Liz Jones with 36:55 at Clitheroe Castle; and Sam Dooley with 25:15; Jaz Bangerh with 34:23 & Michael Mason with 36:28 at Potternewton.

Top female Age Grade% was 73.40% by Jane Prust and top male Age Grade% was 72.44% by Gordon Crawford, both at Woodhouse Moor.
