There were 59 HPH women and 58 HPH men out parkrunning across 46 venues this week.
Twenty-three Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course and two of these were new to the HPH list. These were Llyn Llech Owain in Wales by Robyn Johnson and Tolka Valley in Ireland by Jane and Stephen Prust.
Lyn Llech Owain parkrun is two laps on a signposted gravel trail around the edge of the lake in the Country Park located between Swansea and Carmarthen. The lake, which is surrounded by a peat bog, is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The woodlands provide habitat for a typical range of woodland birds such as tits, goldcrest, common treecreeper, Eurasian jay and green woodpecker. This includes a good population of willow tit. The heathland is home to common kestrel, common buzzard, common lizard and grass snake. There is an abundance of insects and these include dragonflies and damselflies which provide prey for migrating hobbies. The woodlands are also home to a population of hazel dormouse and nest boxes are being provided for this species within the park. There is a visitor centre and café. A car park is available in the park and parking charges apply.
The Tolka Valley parkrun is mainly flat, three laps, on tarmac in the park located in the northwest of Dublin. Covering approximately 50 hectares, sections of the park are laid-out over a former city landfill. Some of park’s wooded areas were planted in 2011, while the wetland sections of the park were developed in 1999. Sections of the River Tolka, within the park, have been stocked with salmon and trout.
There was one first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. This was Meghan Bentley in 19:55 at Elder Park. There were three PBs. These were by Steve Milne with 22:18 at Fountains Abbey; Carol Rogers with 26:09 at Alexandra; and Matt Kasher with 19:04 at Gungahlin in Australia.
Tom Roper joined the parkrun 50 club with his run at Woodhouse Moor and Katherine Ley joined the parkrun 100 club with her run at Roundhay.
Top female Age Grade% was 74.39% by Meghan Bentley at Elder Park and top male Age Grade% was 75.28% by Rupert Jordan at Town Moor.
