There were 65 HPH women and 74 HPH men out parkrunning across 40 venues this week.
Twenty-three Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. Two of these courses were new to the HPH list – both in Australia. These were Brimbank in Melbourne by Manesha Chauhan and Mount Ainslie in Canberra by Brenda Gannon.
Brimbank Park is approximately 15kms north‐west of Melbourne CBD in Keilor East. It is part of an Aboriginal cultural landscape in the traditional Country of the Wurundjeri Peoples. Parks Victoria respects the deep and continuing connection that Wurundjeri Traditional Owners have to these lands and waters. The Brimbank Park playscape is a haven for creative play. Children and their families will be inspired to connect with nature as they play. There are several picnic areas in Brimbank Park. Gas barbecues, shelters and picnic tables are available free of charge. In parts of the park, native grasslands sweep across open plains, down through rocky outcrop escarpments to majestic River Red Gums lining the Maribyrnong River. These natural areas are home to birds including parrots, galahs, large wetland birds and wedge-tailed eagles. Brushtail and ringtail possums live in the large River Red Gums. Wallabies, kangaroos and bats are known to frequent the area, as well as different species of reptiles. The parkrun course is run entirely on a combination of surfaces.
Mount Ainslie parkrun follows an undulating out and back trail along the western edge of the Mount Ainslie Nature Reserve. Mount Ainslie Nature Reserve is located on Ngunnawal Country, an ancient and diverse landscape managed and cared for by Ngunnawal people for tens of thousands of years. According to the Ngunnawal people, Mount Ainslie is a sacred place primarily for women’s business.
There were six first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. These were Samantha Tecwyn in 20:18 on her first time at Bournemouth; Coralie Bell in 20:32 on her first time at Beverley Westwood; Thomas Moulding in a PB time of 17:01 at Roundhay; Amy Ramsden-Young in 20:18 at Castle Park; Vicky Houghton in 24:16 at Middleton Woods; and Michael Vargas in 18:19 at Armley.
There were ten other PBs. These were by Andrew Black with 19:08 and Catherine Wallis with 29:02 at Potternewton; Alison Hargreaves with 22:24 at Woodhouse Moor; Douglas Blackwood with 16:50 at York; Craig Morland with 20:14 and Tom McNeillie with 22:32 at Roundhay; Michelle Dickson with 27:35 at Wyre Forest; Ian Martinson with 21:13 at Market Rasen Racecourse; Daniel Waas with 28:04 at Thonock Lane Farm; and Laura Kettlewell with 24:55 at Rocks Riverside in Brisbane, Australia.
There were no new members of the official parkrun clubs this week, but Manesha Chauhan reached 200 parkruns with her run at Brimbank.
Top female Age Grade% was 73.89% by Amy Ramsden-Young at Castle Park and top male Age Grade% was 77.61% by Ian Martinson at Market Rasen Racecourse.
