There were 73 HPH women and 62 HPH men out parkrunning across 47 venues this week.
Thirty Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. Three of these were new to the HPH list. These were Durlston Country Park in Dorset by Poppy Forwood; Holbrooks in Coventry by Amber Edwards; and Groene Ster in the Netherlands by Jessica Wanless.
Durlston Country Park is a 320-acre country park and nature reserve stretching along the coast of the Isle of Purbeck on the outskirts of Swanage in Dorset. It is a gateway to the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site and forms part of the 630 mile South West Coast Path. The park is a popular destination to enjoy walks, views, climbing, and wildlife. It has a visitor centre, Durlston Castle, the Great Globe, Tilly Whim Caves, and Anvil Point Lighthouse. The parkrun course consists of three sections which are all different and all start and finish by the Castle. Each section has uphill and downhill elements and all offer stunning views of the Jurassic coastline stretching to Portland in the west, Poole and Bournemouth in the east and south to the Isle of Wight.
Holbrook Park in Coventry forms an oasis of open land amid the hustle and bustle of shops and factories off Holbrook Lane. The park contains an enclosed children’s play area; a double skate bowl; a single court multi-use games area; and football pitches used by Coventrians Football Club. The parkrun course is two laps around the perimeter of the park followed by a small detour to the finish. Half of the course is paved with the rest being grass.
Groene Ster parkrun is three laps on asphalt and shell paths through the forest and along the beach in the Groene Ster recreational area to the east of Leeuwarden. The area was developed from the 1960s. In the area are a sunbathing area; beaches (including a nudist beach); lakes; and forest and hiking trails. On beautiful warm, sunny days it is busy with recreationists. Due to local laws, dogs are not allowed at the parkrun between 1 March and 1 November.
There were three first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. These were Andrew Carrier in 19:17 at Potternewton; Alys Griffiths in a PB time of 25:00 at Bowling Park; and Tobias Adkins in 18:22 at Silloth Promenade.
Nathan Jeffs joined the parkrun 25 club with his run at Oakwell Hall. Carol Rogers joined the parkrun 250 club with her run at Heaton in a PB time of 25:30.
There were ten other PBs. These were by Rob Macdowall with 17:58 and Curtis Broadhead with 18:07 at Woodhouse Moor; Abdu Ahmed with 22:13 at Peter Pan; Richard Knighton with 18:28 at Keswick; Sam Dooley with 24:12 at Heslington; Larissa Brown with 28:12 at The Pastures; and Chris Jones with 22:14, Richard Cartwright with 23:36 and Cara Gates with 25:02 at Bowling Park; and Naomi Miles with 21:27 at Roberts Park.
Top female Age Grade% was 73.99% by Carol Rogers at Heaton and top male Age Grade% was 77.59% by Chris Jones at Bowling Park.
