There were 64 HPH Women, 54 HPH Men out parkrunning across 41 different venues this week. Thirty Hyde Park Harriers tried out a new parkrun course and amongst these two new courses were added to the HPH list. These were Swaffham in Norfolk by Poppy Forwood and Mount Edgcumbe in Cornwall by Sarah Markless. Swaffham is a small market town between King’s Lynn and Norwich. Famous former residents include WE Johns – author of the Biggles books; Howard Carter, the archaeologist who discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun; and Stephen Fry. A regular at Swaffham parkrun is a Jim Moriarty, but sadly I’ve yet to spot a visit by his great opponent Sherlock Holmes. Mount Edgcumbe Country House and Park is one of south-east Cornwall’s most popular historic tourist attractions. It has many historical features of interest and also houses the National Camellia Collection. In 1515 Sir Piers Edgcumbe was given permission by King Henry VIII to empark deer there. Their descendants still roam freely throughout.
There were two first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. These were Rebecca Gray in 21:18 on her first visit to Northallerton and Naomi Miles in 21:49 on her first visit to Central Park, Burnaby – a suburb of Vancouver in Canada. There were seven PBs. These were by Alison Hargreaves with 24:39 at Woodhouse Moor; Hannah Sutton with 29:52 at Roundhay; Jane Prust with 27:23 and Clair Hougham with 33:42 at Potternewton; Jaz Bangerh with 37:18 at The Grange; Steve Brown in 30:50 at Chevin Forest on his 200th parkrun; and Alys Griffiths with 22:30 at Ruthin Memorial Playing Fields.
Dylan Comyn joined the parkrun 50 club with his run at Woodhouse Moor.
Top female Age Grade% was 72.92% by Jane Prust at Potternewton and top male Age Grade% was 76.33% by Gordon Crawford at Woodhouse Moor.
