There were 55 HPH women and 53 HPH men out parkrunning across 31 venues worldwide this week.
Seven Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. Two of these courses were new to the HPH list. These were Crinan Canal in Scotland by Tami Bond and Brooklands by Lucy Rider.
The Crinan Canal parkrun course is an out and back route on the path alongside the canal, starting and finishing in the village of Crinan. The nine mile long canal opened in 1801 to provide a navigable route between the Inner Hebrides and the Firth of Clyde without the need for a long diversion around the Kintyre Peninsula. Queen Victoria travelled along the canal to Crinan during a holiday in the Scottish Highlands in 1847. Her journey made the canal a tourist attraction and gave the canal an added purpose. Passenger steamer companies operating out of Glasgow advertised the canal as the “Royal route” and by the late 1850s more than 40,000 passengers passed through Ardrishaig each year and were met by steamers to Oban at Crinan.
Brooklands parkrun course is in Brooklands Community Park. It is two laps on hard paths around the former runway and taxiway, a former go-kart track and through the woods. The start is at the 100m sprint track. The Community Park is situated within the historic Brooklands site, the birthplace of British motorsport and aviation. Brooklands was a 2.8 mile motor racing circuit and aerodrome. It opened in 1907 and was the world’s first purpose-built ‘banked’ motor racing circuit as well as one of Britain’s first airfields, which also became Britain’s largest aircraft manufacturing centre by 1918, producing military aircraft such as the Wellington and civil airliners like the Viscount and VC-10. The circuit hosted its last race in August 1939 and today part of it forms the Brooklands Museum, a major aviation and motoring museum, as well as a venue for vintage car, motorcycle and other transport-related events.
There was one first finishing Hyde Park Harrier. This was Coralie Bell in 20:12 at Woodhouse Moor. There were two PBs. These were by Euan Douglas with 19:39 at Woodhouse Moor and Jonah Kennedy with 24:02 at Potternewton.
Charlotte Victoria Eva joined the parkrun 50 club with her run at Worden.
Top female Age Grade% was 73.27% by Coralie Bell at Woodhouse Moor and top male Age Grade% was 74.19% by Chris Jones at Cross Flatts.
