There were 60 HPH women, 56 HPH men and 1 undeclared HPH out parkrunning across 36 venues this week. Twenty Hyde Park Harriers tried out a new course and amongst them two new venues were added to the HPH list. These were Walvis Bay in Namibia by Jane and Stephen Prust and Shingashigawa Ukima in Tokyo, Japan by Jack Rose. Walvis Bay is Namibia’s second largest city and is named after the bay on which it lies. With its large bay and sand dunes – including Dune 7 which is 1256 ft high, and abundant birdlife it is an important centre for tourism. The parkrun course is out and back along Flamingo Lagoon Walkway – from which you can see tens of thousansd of birds including – you’ve guessed it – many flamingos. Shingashigawa Ukima is a three lap out and back course along the bank of the Shingashi River in Tokyo. It is about 2km away from Ukima Park which is best known for its Dutch Windmill and has sports facilities, playgrounds and beautiful cherry trees that bloom by the water in the Spring, but no parkrun.
There was one first finishing Hyde Park Harrier. This was Rebecca Gray in a PB time of 22:22 at Potternewton There were nine other PBs. These were by Jonathan Tecwyn with 18:58, Vicente Ponsoda with 20:19 and Ben Winfield with 21:09 at Woodhouse Moor; Ciara Crossan with 28:21 at Cross Flatts; Stuart Harris with 30:08 at Oakwell Hall; Tom Elcock with 24:00 and Paul Ramsden with 24:43 at Myrtle; Jordan Clifford with 21:45 at Roberts Park; and Eleanor Williams with 24:51 at University Parks.
Ellie Shipp joined the parkrun 50 club with her run at Woodhouse Moor.
Top female Age Grade% was 73.72% by Hilary Lund at Pontefract and top male Age Grade% was 73.38% by Mike Gallagher at York.
