There were 61 HPH women and 68 HPH men out parkrunning across 47 venues this week.
Twenty-nine Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. Of these, one new courses was added to the HPH list. This was Kashiwanoha in Japan by Vikki Hawkins – her 11th different course in Japan. Kashiwanoha is an area of Kashiwa in the Chiba Prefecture of Japan, less than 25 minutes by Tsukuba Express, Tokyo’s fastest private railway, from Akihabara, Tokyo. Kashiwanoha Park covers an area of approximately 3 square kilometres, complete with a lake, children’s playground and running tracks. This is a very popular attraction. Many people visit to row on the lake and use the barbecue facilities, or just to view the surrounding gardens. The park was named by Hirotaka Saito, head teacher of Tanakakita elementary school in Kashiwa city in 1985, after the oak tree that survived the harsh winter and kept its previous leaves intact until new buds appeared. With the opening of the University of Tokyo, Kashiwa Campus, the population of Kashiwanoha is growing, and the area is undergoing corresponding development, including the recent opening of a baseball stadium and football pitch in Kashiwanoha Park. Kashiwa city was designated as one of the “Future Cities” by the national government in 2011. The Kashiwanoha new town project pursues the declared objectives of an “eco-friendly urban development”, “longer healthy life expectancy” and the “creation of new industries”.
There was one first finishing Hyde Park Harrier. This was Jane Prust in 30:11 on her first time at Favorita in Palermo, Italy.
There were eleven PBs. These were by Meghan Bentley with 19:41, Alison Hargreaves with 22:38, Jonathan Pryor with 25:29 and Hannah Long with 29:42 at Woodhouse Moor; Conor Goold with 24:06 at Whitley Bay; Andrew Carrier with 19:14 and Clare Slorach with 19:20 at Heslington; Richard Cartwright with 23:46 at Middleton Woods; Debbie Brown with 27:40 at Chevin Forest; and Frazer Carr with 17:48 and Dominique Harris with 46:58 at Roberts Park.
Jack Holland, Hannah Long and Nicola Woodward all joined the parkrun 50 club with their runs at Woodhouse Moor.
Top female Age Grade% was 77.84% by Clare Slorach at Heslington and top male Age Grade% was 78.52% by Rupert Jordan at Town Moor.
