There were 71 HPH women, 68 HPH men and 1 undeclared HPH out parkrunning across 53 venues this week.
Thirty-five Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course and amongst these three were new to the HPH list. These were Erskine Waterfront in Renfrewshire by Steve Milne; Royal Canal in Ireland by Chris Worfolk; and Whakatāne Gardens in New Zealand by Harriet Shaw. All three are out and back courses alongside water.
The Erskine Waterfront parkrun course is out-and-back on tarmac and gravel paths along the south bank of the River Clyde. It affords excellent views of Erskine Bridge as well as passing close to the Pandamonium Soft Play Centre that has a state of the art play area for over 4s with a large frame with drop slide, multi-lane slide, go karts, sports area, trampolines, a bouncy castle and staff dressed as pandas.
Royal Canal parkrun course is an out, heading west, and back along the level towpath of the Royal Canal – starting in the town of Kilcock. It is part of the 130km long Royal Canal Cycle Greenway that stretches from Maynooth to Cloondara / Longford making it the longest cycle greenway in Ireland.
The Whakatāne Gardens parkrun course is flat on permanent paths along the townside bank of the River Whakatāne. Whakatāne is a town located in the Bay of Plenty Region in the North Island of New Zealand. The town is where New Zealand triathlete Hayden Wilde grew up. You may recall that Wilde won the World Triathlon Championship Series race in Roundhay park in June 2022 after causing an accident which saw Jonny Brownlee and Alex Yee crash out. The parkrun course starts near an authentic Japanese Garden that was built with contributions from Whakatāne’s Sister City in Japan, Kamagaya. Kamagaya has yet to have a parkrun course.
There were two first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. These were Anna Stocks in 19:54 in her first time at Scunthorpe and Thomas Moulding in 19:24 in his first time at Worden. There were eleven PBs. These were by Daniel Laycock with 20:21, Joe Lawley with 21:32, Matthew Drake with 24:24 and Jill McKnight with 29:45 at Woodhouse Moor; Eleanor Williams with 25:30 at Valentines; Jonathan Coade with 19:22 at Rothwell; Frances Andrews with 28:53 at Keswick; Chris Harris with 25:30 at Oakwell Hall; Andrew Dewar with 21:57 at Middleton Woods; Rebecca Dawson with 25:03 at Wynyard Woodland; and Maika Ohno with 28:36 at Festningen in Norway.
Chrissy Donnelly joined the parkrun 50 club with her run at North Yorkshire Water Park. Sarah Jewers joined the parkrun 100 club with her run at Woodhouse Moor.
Top female Age Grade% was 71.54% by Clare Slorach at Roundhay and top male Age Grade% was 72.62% by Mike Gallagher at York.
