There were 66 HPH women and 61 HPH men out parkrunning across 45 venues this week. Twenty-seven Hyde Park Harriers tried out a new course and amongst them one new course was added to the HPH list. This was Llanishen Park in Cardiff by Sam Dooley. Historically Llanishen Park consisted of a woodland area, a nursery operated by the Cardiff Parks Service and the North Llanishen Recreation Ground. Up until the 1980s the Llanishen nursery grew trees and shrubs, including roses, for Cardiff’s parks. In its heyday the nursery would also grow trees for planting as street trees. In 1987 a three-year rolling programme was approved for the ornamental development of the former nursery area, to include a main access road and car park, a play area, footpaths and seating, as well as planting of indigenous and ornamental species and bulbs and bedding near the entrance. Approval followed for a woodland improvement scheme for footpaths, woodland glades, picnic areas, and an area for nature study. Soon after came the development of three playing pitches at Llanishen Park. A sports field drainage scheme was installed, and new changing rooms were also provided, built on the site of the demolished nursery buildings, and completed by 1993. It held its first parkrun on 18th June 2022.
The HPH men provided both first finishing Hyde Park Harriers this week. These were Michael Vargas in 18:22 at Middleton Woods and Frazer Carr in 22:14 at Great Yarmouth North Beach – currently rated as the toughest parkrun in the UK. There were twelve PBs. These were by Romina Masood with 27:34 at Victoria Park Glasgow; Sarah Markless with 27:32 at Pontypool; Joe Hogg with 26:38 and Kathryn Hogg with 40:41 at Heslington; Cara Gates with 24:22 at Erddig; Richard Neal with 26:26 at Exmouth; Ben Hartley with 22:27, Joe Lawley with 22:29, Eleanor Williams with 25:32 and Karly Stringer with 26:54 at Middleton Woods; and Paul Ramsden with 25:50 and Emma Brown with 28:27 at Rothay Park.
Grace Roberts joined the parkrun 100 club with her run at Woodhouse Moor.
Top female Age Grade% was 69.84% by Jane Prust and top male Age Grade% was 73.32% by Gordon Crawford, both at Woodhouse Moor.
