With a slightly premature cancellation of Woodhouse Moor parkrun due to unfounded fears about high winds in Leeds on Saturday morning, the number of parkrunning Hyde Park Harriers was down a bit this week. Overall there were 39 HPH women and 38 HPH men out parkrunning across 36 venues worldwide.

Fourteen Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. One of these courses was new to the HPH list. It was Rinko Park in Yokohama, Japan by Vikki Hawkins. At around 19 acres, Rinko Park is the largest green space in the Minato Mirai district of Yokohama. It has a great view of the Port of Yokohama from its large “Lawn Square”. The park contains some impressive works of art. These include The “Fruit Tree”, designed by South Korean artist, Choi Jeong Hwa. The “Japan-Brazil Friendship Monument”, designed by sculptor, Yutaka Toyota. This spanning steel bridge represents the friendship between Japan and Brazil that has lasted over 100 years. A similar one can be found in Sao Paolo facing the direction of Yokohama. “The Anchor” – a symbol of Rinko Park and a common sight throughout the port area of Yokohama. The park also contains the “Shioiri-no-Ike” pond whose water level changes with tidal action. The parkrun course repeats an out-and-back section on a paved path alongside the water’s edge four times.

There was one first finishing Hyde Park Harrier. This was Abdu Ahmed in 19:31 at Beverley Westwood. There were eight PBs. These were by Rosie Lewis with 26:13 at Roundhay; Manesha Chauhan with 31:25 at Bramley; Nigel Wallis with 24:36, Matt Barton with 24:36 and Helen Noyes with 29:23 at Potternewton; Sarah Jewers with 28:15 at Chevin Forest; Chris Worfolk with 25:52 at Sport Ireland Campus; and Tami Bond with 29:06 at Durham NC, USA.

Top female Age Grade% was 69.43% by Lucy McKerrell at Westpark in Germany and top male Age Grade% was 81.95% by Chris Jones at Heslington.
