There were 52 HPH women and 55 HPH men out parkrunning across 48 venues this week. Twenty-eight Hyde Park Harriers tried out a new course and amongst them two new courses were added to the HPH list. These were Henley-on-Thames by Chloe Brooks and Glengarriff in County Cork, Ireland by Gary Grant. The Henley-on-Thames parkrun course is two-laps of “steeply undulating scenic trail path”. The area made the news in 2022 when there was a proposal to relocate slow worms there from a development site on the other side of Henley-on-Thames to make way for new homes. Councillor Ken Arlett said: “I think it’s absolutely bloody stupid moving the slow worms from that part of town to this part of town. There’s a field next door — just pick them up and put them over there and I’m sure they’ll be very happy. Or move them to the other side of the road as they have been there for the best part of 60 years. I will support this but it’s not one of my favourite things.” Glengarriff parkrun course is around the spectacular Nature Reserve with woods containing some of the oldest and most extensive oak and birch groves left in Ireland nestled in a sheltered glen opening out into Glengarriff Harbour. Above the woods rise the Caha Mountains, with their dramatic layers of sheer rock. Abundant wildlife includes seven species of bat, otters, pine martens, stoats, red squirrels, foxes, badgers, sika deer, feral goats, hares, hedgehogs, wood mice and bank voles.
There were three first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. These were Frazer Carr in a PB time of 16:44 at Great Dereham; Anna Stocks in 19:43 at Millfield; and Rupert Jordan in 17:06 at Wexford Racecourse in Ireland. There were ten other PBs. These were by Samantha Tecwyn with 19:23, Tariq Roberts with 22:44, Karly Stringer with 24:54 and Jonathan Pryor with 26:00 at Woodhouse Moor; Claire Lyons with 24:50 at Preston; Jane Prust with 27:33 at Bradford; Simon McGrath with 19:58 at Warrington; Chris Jones with 22:38 at Selby; Sophie Studholme with 23:58 at Bower Park; and Stuart Harris with 30:51 at Chevin Forest.
Frances Andrews joined the parkrun 50 club with her run at Chevin Forest.
Top female Age Grade% was 76.70% by Samantha Tecwyn at Woodhouse Moor and top male Age Grade% was 79.24% by Rupert Jordan at Wexford Racecourse.
