There were 57 HPH women and 51 HPH men out parkrunning across 43 venues this week.
Twenty Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course and one of these was new to the HPH list. This was Leakin Park in Baltimore, USA by Tami Bond. Despite the name I’m sure you will be relieved to hear that Leakin Park in Winan’s Meadow, Baltimore, Maryland has toilets near the parkrun course start/finish area. It’s a double out and back course on paved road / path. Leakin Park is one of the largest woodland parks in the United States. It has an area of 1,216 acres. It is well known for the fact that over 75 bodies have been discovered in the park since the 1940s. Leakin Park has thus garnered a negative reputation as a place where the remains of local suicide and murder victims are often found. Because of this association, the park began to be morbidly called by locals “the city’s largest unregistered graveyard” and “Baltimore’s largest open-air cemetery”. In 2011, the Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks led efforts to change the park’s reputation with the closure of dead-end access roads. Leakin Park is also home to the Baltimore Herb Festival.
There was one first finishing Hyde Park Harrier. This was Josh Dawson in a PB time of 17:57 at Lister Park. There were eight other PBs. These were by Paul Robinson with 23:01 at Bushy; Mike Gallagher with 17:13 at York; Simon Burton with 21:36 at Roundhay; Amy Ramsden-Young with 42:36 at Druridge Bay; Sam Dooley with 24:42 at Heslington; Nicki Derrick with 24:00 at Morecambe Prom; and John Blatherwick with 25:50 and Naomi Adkins with 36:27 at Chevin Forest.
There weren’t any new parkrun club members this week, but Emma Amor completed her 200th parkrun with her run at Dunfermline and Jamie Ryan reached 300 parkruns with his run at Halifax.
Top female Age Grade% was 72.25% by Jane Prust at Walsall Arboretum and top male Age Grade% was 79.28% by Mike Gallagher at York.
