parkrunday 9th November 2019

It was a parkrunday of special celebrations this week. Amongst the 87 Hyde Park Harriers parkrunning across 27 different venues there were two new members of parkrun clubs; two big round number milestones; two new international venues added to the Hyde Park Harriers’ list; two first finishers; and nine PBs.

It was a double celebration at tututastic Woodhouse Moor where in the week of her 7th birthday Poppy Forwood joined the parkrun 100 club and the slightly older tutu wearing Jaz Bangerh joined the parkrun 500 club. Poppy celebrated with traditional cake and balloons and Jaz celebrated by providing 400 bananas each with a handwritten inspirational message for finishers. Over at South Manchester Clare Maxwell completed her 300th parkrun and in Firenze, Italy super parkrun tourist (having done 138 different parkrun events) Andrew Nicholls completed his 400th. Two other super parkrun tourists Steve Milne (182 events / 235 parkruns) and Tom Elcock (234 events / 277 parkruns) added Tokoinranta parkrun in Helsinki and Castleblayney parkrun in Ireland respectively to the Hyde Park Harriers venue list. The course in Helsinki sounds nice. It goes past the Alvar Aalto Finlandia house in white marble and the Opera House and has a beautiful view of the city centre. The course at Castleblayney is above the western shore of Lough Muckno – and according to Wikipedia the Irish name of the lake is ‘the place where pigs swim’.

There were two first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. These were Vicky Houghton in 25:50 at Bestwood Village and Cara Sass in a PB time of 23:39 at Bramley; There were eight other PBs. These were by 100 clubber Poppy Forwood in 37:05 and Deanna Howley in 33:09 at Woodhouse Moor; Anna Stocks in 20:37 and John Blatherwick in 22:46 at Roundhay; Monika Pugeviciute in 23:53 at Cross Flatts; Catherine Wallis in 26:45 at Penrith; Gill Donaldson in 34:53 at Armley; and Andrew Nicholls in 22:29 at Firenze.

Following 11 months of treatment for a variety of problems with his heart and lungs and a deep vein thrombosis Sam Dooley was discharged this week and he celebrated with his quickest parkrun in four years in 30:58 at Normanby Hall.

Top Age Grade% by the ladies was 72.06% by Clare Slorach at Roundhay and for the men was 71.98% by Andrew Nicholls at Firenze.

Nicola Forwood is now on 499 parkruns so it could be a case of dΓ©jΓ  vu celebrations (although probably with less bananas) at Woodhouse Moor next week!

Here are the details of all this weekend’s parkrunning Hyde Park Harriers.
