There were 62 HPH Women and 46 HPH Men out parkrunning across 31 different venues this week. Twenty Hyde Park Harriers tried out a new parkrun course and amongst these three new courses were added to the current HPH list. The three new courses were all international. These were Frog Hollow in Australia by Tom Elcock; Killarney House in Ireland by Liz and Chris Jones; and taking advantage of the extra parkrunday in Germany on their Unity Day, Liz and Chris Jones again at Dietenbachpark, Freiburg im Breisgau on Monday morning. Frog Hollow is a nature reserve on the outskirts of Melbourne along the banks of Eumemmerring Creek. A series of ponds have been constructed, providing habitat for water birds and of course frogs. Although man-made, these ponds mimic and enhance the natural function of the original wetlands. Killarney House was once the stable block of a magnificent French chateau style residence that has since been demolished. The house and surrounding estate passed to the Irish State following the death of its owners in 1998 and after a €7 million restoration of the manor it was opened to the public in 2016. Dietenbach is a newly developed city district in Freiburg im Breisgau. The development plan describes it as having “open spaces, which serve as decelerated exercise and relaxation areas and make a significant contribution to nature and species protection, pulsating life takes place here.” It also has one of the largest and most modern skate parks in Germany.
There were four first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. These were Heather Goodacre in 21:28 at Coventry; Amy Ramsden-Young in a PB time of 19:23 at Rotherham; Rupert Jordan in 16:51 at Armley; and Peter Noren in 19:04 at Alstervorland, Germany. There were eight other PBs. These were by Jonathan Spain with 19:00 and Muyang Zhang with 28:22 at Woodhouse Moor; Nicki Derrick with 27:30 at York; Alice Young with 26:20 at Mile End; Jane Prust with 28:53 and Stephen Prust with 34:49 at Bramley; Pavels Sidlovskis with 21:41 at Charlton; and Steve Brown with 28:57 – his third successive PB – at Chevin Forest..
Pavels Sillovskis joined the parkrun 25 club with his run at Charlton; Emman Whitlow joined the parkrun 50 club with her run at Woodhouse Moor; and Helen Beddow & Larissa Brown joined the parkrun 100 club with their runs at Woodhouse Moor and Druridge Bay respectively.
Top female Age Grade% was 76.70% by Amy Ramsden-Young at Rotherham and top male Age Grade% was 79.82% by Rupert Jordan at Armley.
