There were 65 HPH women and 63 HPH men out parkrunning across 43 venues this week.

Twenty-eight Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course and amongst them three new courses were added to the HPH list. These were Whitekirk Hill in North Berwick, Scotland by Emma Amor; Danehy Park in North Cambridge, Massachusetts on the special extra US parkrun day of Thanksgiving Day and Duffins Trail in the Greater Toronto Area in Canada on the Saturday by Steve Milne.

Whitekirk Hill is a secluded countryside retreat in North Berwick near Edinburgh. It has luxurious self-catering lodges, an award-winning spa, a gourmet Orangery & Terrace and a Play Barn full of fun activities for children. The two lap parkrun course is on a mixture of gravel and grass trails starting and finishing near the retreat car park.

Danehy Park opened in 1990 having been redeveloped as a park from the city dump landfill site. It contains athletic fields, paths, and a wetland area. The three lap parkrun course is mostly flat on asphalt paths and skirts around the newly created Miyawaki Forest. This is is an ultra dense, biodiverse pocket forest that recreates the complexity of natural forests. By giving home to a vast array of native species it boosts the biodiversity of the area and nurtures pollinators, supporting and restoring ecosystems. It sequesters carbon in the soil, reduces air pollution and soil contamination, improves water absorption to buffer against flooding and erosion, and cools the surrounding area to mitigate the urban heat island effect. It also creates a living classroom for people and communities to learn about native ecology, engage in stewardship, and experience the interconnectedness of the natural world.

Duffins Trail is in the new town of Ajax – about seven miles east of Toronto on the shore of Lake Ontario. The parkrun course is out and back along Duffins Creek Trail on a wide, hard-packed, multi-use path with lush greenery on either side which crosses over the river several times.

Steve Milne has now completed 370 parkruns across 286 different events in 14 different countries. He also has 103 volunteer credits.

There were two first finishing Hyde Park Harriers this week. These were Jonathan Spain in 18:22 at Monsal Trail and Cara Gates in 23:33 at Clarence. There were seven PBs. These were by Curtis Broadhead with 18:24 and Andrew Dewar with 20:41 at Woodhouse Moor; Alice Webb with 31:03 at Stevenage; Tom Elcock with 24:05 at Selby; Frazer Carr with 21:39 at Sizewell; and Chloe Brooks with 25:32 and Alexandra Natalie Smith with 27:29 at Chevin Forest.

Emma Brown joined the parkrun 250 club with her run at Woodhouse Moor.

Top female Age Grade% was 71.28% by Hilary Lund at Nostell and top male Age Grade% was 74.45% by Rupert Jordan at Belton House.
