Road Championship after 5 of 7 Rounds

Sundays always popular Eccup 10 saw 45 runners from the club scoring points in the clubs Road Championship.  Yet again another great turn out and was good to see some new faces and some old faces returning.

Stan Karanasios lead home the men from Anthony Aimon and Daniel Cross.  Rachel Bourne was first lady home from Claire Geeson and Lucy Rider.

So with 5 scores counting from the 7 rounds, the championship heads to a summer break now with some interesting battles ahead.  The next round isn’t until November and its the Abbey Dash, usually the best supported event we do.  So are you in contention for a prize, promotion or watching over your shoulder at a relegation battle?  The plan is 5 up 5 down but if more in the division above don’t enter they will all get relegated opening up more promotion spots.

Ladies Premier – Rachel Bourne took maximum points, her 4th win from 4 rounds she has entered.  One more win from either of the remaining two rounds will see her crowned champion with a maximum score possible.  Rebecca Rogers wasn’t at this round and is the only other person to have a 20 point haul from a round.  Sarah Farnell appeared for the first time meaning 13 out of 20 have scored points so far.

Ladies 1st – This isn’t the best supported division with so far only 7 of the 20 named runners scoring, meaning all have a chance of promotion.  Hilary Lund and Claire Geeson are both tied at the top with a win and a second place, followed by Roslyn Holmes and Robin Culshaw who have both taken maximum points on there one outing.  So we are missing 13 runners from this division, and entry in the final two rounds could make a huge difference to the championship.

Ladies 2nd – 19 ladies have scored in this division, and a good few could be up for promotion.  Lucy Rider is leading after her first maximum points with Emma Amor 2nd.  There has been 4 different winners from the 5 rounds with Helen Close taking 2, Hannah Marshall and Emily Stevenson joining Lucy.  Lots to play for in this division.

Mens Premier – A really good 17 out of 20 men have scored points so far, but this means at least a couple of point scorers still have work to do to avoid being relegated.  Ken Fox leads from James Booth and James Vickers.  Its the man in 4th that could be the man to watch.  3 appearances, 3 wins for Stan Karanasios, will we see him again??  With all the top 3 now having to drop scores the Abbey Dash will definitely shuffle the pack.  Chris Smith and Ben Hartley have both taken wins.

Mens 1st – With the premier division being so competitive there will only be 5 promoted from the 1st division.  Anthony Aimon took maximum points at the Eccup taking him to top spot.  Tom Eales is 2nd and Daniel Cross 3rd.  There has been 5 different winners from the 5 rounds, Anthony, Tom, Trevor Raddings, Chris Mann and Philip Goose.  14 out of 20 have scored so 6 are looking at relegation.

Mens 2nd – 2 wins in a row have jumped Scott Watson to the top of the division, with Tom Pollard 2nd and Tom Martin 3rd.  Before Scott went on his winning streak Tom Martin would the 3rd round and Liam O’Brien won the first 2 rounds but hasn’t been out since.

The Abbey Dash is defiantly going to shake up the championships, bring on round 6 in November.
