Road Championship Round 1 – Wakefield 10k

19 Hyde Park Harriers made there way to Wakefield for the 1st round of the new look club championships.  All will score 5 points for the Club Competitor championship and it was a chance to get some early points on the board for the Road Championship.

This year the road championship is over 10 rounds with the best 7 scores to count, and Wakefield’s undulating course was a new addition this year.

Liam O’Brien was the first Harrier home in 18th overall with a time of 36.13 but was made to work for it by Chris Mann who came home 21st in 36.27.  Scott Watson was 3rd in 37.16, all 3 are from the 1st division this year.

Chris Smith was next home and took the maximum points in the premier division where we are definitely getting a new champion after Stan has moved back to Australia.  James Vickers took 2nd place points and is edging closer to breaking the 40 minute barrier(40.16).

Aron Hinds started the season with top points in the 2nd division from Russell Webster.

Having won the ladies 2nd division last year Lucy Rider started this year coming home 1st Harrier lady and claiming top points in the 1st division.  A new PB as well made for a good start to the new season.

Heather Fulton with a strong performance was next home and got top points in the 2nd division.

Top points in the premier division went to Diane Aykroyd who just ducked ahead of her daughter Clare Mason for the extra point.

Next up for the club is the the Bluebell Trail which is round 2 of the club competitor championship and the 1st round of the Off Road championship.  Next Road round is the John Carr 5k series which like last year we will count the best time from the 3 rounds.  The Leeds half is also in between these rounds and we always get an excellent turn out there.
