Rombalds Romp 2015 – HPH Fell Championship Race 5

A superb day out on the fells for HPH.  Bright sunshine, but an extremely boggy Ilkley Moor for race number 5 of the Harriers Fell Championship.

14 runners again this year from HPH, with 6 choosing the Trail route, and 8 tackling the Fell.  After a tricky climb to start with, both routes took us through a forest mud bath, with Ken Fox losing a whole leg (left) in a bog.  Fears that we’d lose Monica completely in the mud were allayed as she powered round the 11km course, finishing as 3rd lady in the Trail race.

This race has been notorious in the past for Hyde Park runners heading off in the wrong direction, but Abbey Runners and North Leeds Fell Runners had the route well marked and expertly marshaled.

Plenty of prizes for the HPH runners who completed the 11km race today:

Robin Culshaw – 3rd FSEN (Fell)
Monica Padilla – 3rd FSEN(Trail)

Dan Cross managed to take nearly 7 minutes off his time from last year, (following the right route making all the difference), finishing in 48:50- just ahead of David Driver.

Plenty of ankle damage on the way round with Charlie and Scott both picking up slight injuries…and a great effort from Anthony to grab 3rd place in the trail race, returning to action after his ankle problems at Round Hill Fell Race.

Robin *almost* walked away with the prize for first F45 but seemed reluctant to accept the prize and her announced age category.  [update: – it was later confirmed that Robin was 3rd lady in the Fell race]
