The Pelvic Health Clinic

Hi folks, it’s Sarah from The Pelvic Health Clinic here, I’m a Tuesday regular with you all (trying to
make it to Thursday’s more frequently but not proving very successful so far). I’m a
physiotherapist with experience working in public, private and professional sporting
environments.

My passion for women’s and pelvic health stems from my own journey as an athlete back
home in Ireland, where I experienced my own fair share of pelvic and hip injuries. Having
undergone surgery in 2023 I was frustrated with the lack of support and timely access to
pelvic health services; hence The Pelvic Health Clinic was born.

Professional and recreational athletes are almost equally affected by pelvic floor dysfunction
(PFD). So, whether you’re an elite athlete or love to stay active, it is really so important to
prioritise pelvic health to prevent injuries. High-impact sports, such as running, gymnastics,
and weightlifting, place considerable stress on the pelvic floor. Studies have shown that up to
80% of female athletes experience some form of urinary incontinence or pelvic organ
prolapse, particularly during activities involving jumping or intense physical exertion.

Although common, these symptoms are not normal and there is help available. Contrary to
what women have been told for decades to “simply put up with it” we know that women
deserve so much more than this and symptoms can be treated with the correct approach.
Rest assured, you will also not be told to “just stop running” which we all know are the 3 bad
words and my biggest bug bearer, but that’s a conversation for another day!

We support with bladder and bowel symptoms, pelvic hip and back pain and specialised
guidance and support during the ante and postnatal period, including clearance for safe
return to run following the arrival of your little one.

Although men do also have pelvic floors, I do not currently treat men in clinic, however I’m
happy to recommend other clinicians who do.

I am really passionate about pelvic health and aim to empower others to take control of their
own pelvic health journeys too. I am happy to offer all members of Hyde Park Harriers a lifetime 10% discount on all initial and follow up appointments. If you would like to discuss any of your symptoms or how pelvic health physiotherapy can help, I am happy to have a chat in person or alternatively, you can book a free 15 minute consultation call via our website – www.thepelvichealthclinic.co.uk
