How to join our Tuesday club runs - Read More
West Yorkshire 5
The second half of the club Road Championship kicked off with the West Yorkshire 5 miler. Not a distance that is run often and on a challenging course it was still great to see 27 Harriers on the start line (15 men and 12 ladies).
With the race starting at Birkenshaw Fire head quarters a pre race photo had to be in front of a fire engine. A few of the ladies were disappointed at the lack of fire fighters though.
The pace was hot from the start, a small loop round the grounds before a climb up to about a mile and a half. Then it levelled off before dropping down hill until mile 3. The last couple of miles were mainly uphill including a steep little climb when you turned into the grounds of the fire station.
The first harrier home in an excellent 6th overall and an impressive time of 29.46 was Philip Goose. This was Phil’s 4th start in the road championship out of the 6 rounds and his 4th maximum points haul in the premier division. He had been expecting a smack down with championship leader Chris Smith but he missed this round but still retains his points lead.
2nd Harrier home in 12th place with a time of 31.01 was Scott Watson. Scott is on great form and this was his 3rd maximum score in a row in the 1st division. 3rd Harrier home and taking top points in the 2nd division was Jimmy Sheldon in 17th place and 31.29. Jimmy like Scott has took top points for the last 3 races.
There was a close battle for points in the premier division with James Booth coming home 26th, Charlie Jackett 32nd and Chris Jones in 34th. Chris did take home honours in his age group being the clubs only award winner this time out.
Dan Donnelly was next up in 37th and his 2nd place points in the 1st division see him climbing well up the table as with Farhad who was next in 39th. Jack Rose was 2nd home in division 2 and 62nd.
In the ladies Jennifer Gridley made her first appearance and was first Harrier home in 98th with a time of 39.40 claiming top points in the 2nd division.
Laura Cummings was next in 41.11 and took top points in the premier division. Sarah Farnell and Clare Maxwell continued there battle at the top of the division coming home next in times of 43.36 and 44.40.
1st Division honours went to Michelle Hancocks while Sara Scholes was runner up in the 2nd division.
Great to see Sue Smith looking strong and enjoying her running again, and everyone seemed happy with there run.
Latest championship points are attached, with the next round being a little different. How fast can you run a mile on the track?? Well on Saturday 17th September you can find out. So far 15 Harriers are entered including some new faces.
