This week there were 51 HPH women and 55 HPH men out parkrunning across 37 venues worldwide.
Thirteen Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. Two of these courses were new to the HPH list. These were Greenwich Peninsula by Frazer Carr and Kitanagase Mirai Fureai Sogokoen in Japan by Vikki Hawkins.
The Greenwich Peninsula parkrun course is along permanent paths on the bank of the River Thames. It starts near the North Greenwich boat pier and heads north to loop around The O2 Arena. It then doubles back past the start point and goes down to the Greenwich Yacht Club to a turnaround point. The finish is close to the start.
Like the Greenwich Peninsula parkrun, the Kitanagase Mirai Fureai Sogokoen parkrun in the city of Okayama takes in a dome – the Okayama Dome – that hosts exhibitions, markets, concerts, and other events. The park was renovated from the site of a vast former train yard. It has a large open lawn, swings, and large playground equipment perfect for small children. Okayama has some impressive attractions. These include Okayama Castle which was constructed in 1957, destroyed by bombing in 1945 in World War II, but reconstructed in 1966. Close by is Kōraku-en, known as one of the best traditional gardens in Japan.
There were two first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. These were Vikki Hawkins in 41:00 at Kitanagase Mirai Fureai Sogokoen and Thomas Moulding in 18:01 at Potternewton. There were two PBs. These were by Sam Townson with 16:59 at Sutcliffe and Coralie Bell with 18:47 at Brook Leys.
Jonah Kennedy joined the parkrun 50 club with his run at Woodhouse Moor. Laura Kettlewell and Jane Prust joined the parkrun 250 club with their runs at Woodhouse Moor and Potternewton respectively.
Top female Age Grade% was 78.89% by Coralie Bell at Brook Leys and top male Age Grade% was 77.92% by George Crawford at Woodhouse Moor.
